How To Be Prepared When Visiting The Western Slope

Colorado is known for having unpredictable weather, remember to always be prepared for fast changing conditions!

Changing Conditions

Make sure your windshield wipers are clean and ready to take on heavy rain at any moment, especially in the afternoons.

High Temperatures

Summer is a great time to visit Colorado, but temperatures can get into the upper 90's - it's best to get out and explore in the earlier hours of the day.

Sunscreen

Montrose sits at an elevation of 5,822 ft., event on the cooler days sunscreen should be worn and reapplied every two hours when exploring outdoors.

Bring Layers

Even if the days are hot, the temperatures can drop fast when the sun goes down or an unexpected storm rolls in - always bring layers with you when exploring Colorado.

Water

Always bring more water with you than you think you need. It is easy to forget to drink water on the cooler days, but remember that at higher elevation you need more water .

Proper Gear

Wearing the proper shoes and bringing the correct gear can make or break your trip, be sure to wear the right shoes and bring the right gear for the activities you plan to take part in.

First Aid Kit

It's always a good idea to bring a simple first aid kit along when exploring outdoors - Band-Aids, gauze, antiseptic wipes, tweezers, elastic bandages, I.C.E contact info are just a few examples.

Snacks

It's always a good idea to bring snacks along for any adventure, especially when you are unsure how long you will be out for the day.
